CTC within the Community
Community life is a big part of life at Cathcart Trinity.
Our Local Community
Cathcart Trinity’s parish extends from Ruel Street to Muirend Road along the Holmlea/Clarkston Road corridor. There’s a mix of housing styles, people’s ages and family size. It is regarded as a relatively safe area with a sense of community identity.
Cathcart Trinity Church is one of the few ‘public’ buildings within the parish, along with the Couper Institute, and Library.. These buildings are at the heart of our community.
The Church seeks to serve its community and we are delighted to have our extensive suite of halls and Sanctuary available for community use. Cathcart Trinity runs a number of groups, activities and organizations, open to anyone who is interested in attending. Details can be found elsewhere on the website.
We are involved in Cartvale Care Home, Merrylee Lodge and Daycare Unit, with monthly services of worship. It’s a privilege to share in the lives of residents, centre users and staff. Church members are involved in a variety of community projects - from being good neighbours, to volunteering in the Well, or as Street pastors, or hospital visitors……and many other areas of service. Our ministers are Chaplains to Merrylee Primary School and Hillpark Secondary.
Our Mission Statement includes “serving others’. This is our intention; we seek to serve our community.
Our Glasgow Community
Our Mission Statement declares that we will follow Jesus Christ, Glorify God and Serve Others. We are very clear that to carry out the first two requirements, we must fully commit to the third, not only in our local area but also in our Glasgow Wide Community.
In Cathcart Trinity we are truly blessed to have so many people willing to devote their time and energies to a huge variety of projects, some funded by the Church of Scotland and others working independently, to enhance and improve the lives of our fellow Glaswegians.
Giving both financial support and practical help, we have members who are involved with The Well Multicultural Advice Centre, Street Pastors, The Lodging House Mission and Glasgow the Caring City amongst others. Information on these organisations can be found using the links given on the Enquiries and Links page of this website.
We are, and continue to be committed, with the Holy Spirit’s help, to identifying and meeting the needs of not only in our local area but also our wider Glasgow Community.
Wider World Community
Members from both Cathcart Trinity and Cathcart U.F. Church make up the Wider World Mission Team. We focus on supporting our own missionary partners in Iraq and in Spain. Newsletters and other news of our missionaries and others are received and passed on to the team members. We also focus on countries where there is persecution of minorities, mainly Christians, and of human rights workers. Awareness raising is done through speakers, presentations, petitions, card writing groups and the church magazine. Our ministers are made aware of situations requiring prayer and the relevant politicians are advised of concerns requiring action. Meetings organised by CSW, Release International and others groups are attended and reported to the team, and where appropriate to the church members. Financial support comes directly from the churches and individual members and also from concerts and other fund raising events held from time to time.
