Bible Study (E100 Challenge)

Picture
This year our bible study focus is a journey through the bible in 100 readings; 50 readings from the Old Testament and 50 from the New Testament. This is an exciting and immensely enjoyable Challenge with the aim to give us a good understanding of the overall Bible story from Genesis to Revelation.

The entire Church family is involved - the ministers, each member of the congregation and the children and young people too. Cathcart UF Church is accompanying us on this journey and we very much look forward to learning together and sharing our discoveries.

There are 4 main aspects in this Challenge:

The Essential Readings Challenge
Most importantly we must read the Bible. The guidebook, Essential 100, takes us through the passages and provides support and guidance in understanding what God is telling us and how we should respond. The guidebook can be purchased in the Church for £5.00.

The Preaching Challenge
The preaching every third Sunday focuses on the E100 readings. Our ministers are committed to, and excited by, the Preaching Challenge and we look forward to developing a deeper understanding of these passages, themes and God’s message to us.

The Sofa Challenge
We meet together in small groups to discuss the readings and the preaching. There are a number of groups available for people to join. If you prefer, you can do this informally with friends or family. The Sofa Groups meet the week following each ‘Preaching Challenge’. If you’d like to sign up to one of the Sofa Groups emails us at e100@cathcarttrinity.org.uk

The Big Bible Challenge
The children also participate in the E100 Challenge in their own programme at the Sunday Club.

Alpha

Picture
You may have seen banners, adverts on billboards and buses, or heard the name mentioned and be thinking “What is the Alpha Course?”

To quote from one of several Alpha related websites “Alpha is a low-pressure, fun and informative course. It is a place to relax, share your thoughts and explore the meaning of life. The course is designed primarily for people who don't go to church, but are interested in finding out more about the Christian faith”

Here’s what some celebrities and newspapers have said about Alpha:

“Today, everywhere I go, I hear how Alpha courses are communicating the Christian faith in relevant and non-threatening situations. Do go along if you get the chance.” Sir Cliff Richard

“I cannot think of any other course that covers the introduction to the core beliefs of the Christian faith in such an accessible way and so relevant for today.” David Suchet

“What Alpha offers, and what is attracting thousands of people, is permission, rare in secular culture, to discuss the big questions – life and death and their meaning.” The Guardian

Are you curious about “the big questions”; are you looking for “something more”; is God calling you? If you can answer yes to any of these questions -think about coming to an Alpha course. Come by yourself or bring a friend.

We have been running Alpha courses at Cathcart Trinity since 2004 and have had over 200 people within and out with the Church come along to listen, ask questions and learn about Jesus and the Christian faith in a relaxed, non-threatening environment. Courses are run regularly throughout the year; details of the next course can be found on the events page of this website, or by emailing alpha@cathcarttrinity.org.uk.

If you want more details on the structure, content and aims of The Alpha Courses plus information of courses throughout the country contact us or have a look at www.alpha.org.uk

Jesus the Evidence

Picture

Cathcart Trinity is the home of "Jesus: The Evidence”.

Jesus: The Evidence (JtE) is an range of outreach tools - a course, a booklet and a website www.jesustheevidence.com, designed to engage with non-Christians.

"There is a historical and rational basis for Jesus being the Son of God.  There is a wealth of evidence to support this."

The JtE resources have been developed primarily for people who would  classify themselves as either agnostics or atheists. However,  we’ve found that these resources are also of use to Christians – as JtE can help  provide a grounding in the historical and rational aspects of our faith. This,  in turn, can help Christians sharing their faith with non-Christians.

Since running our first, 3-night course at Cathcart Trinity Church in 2008, we have successfully run courses in various locations around  Scotland. Would a JtE presentation fit with your outreach work? Presentations and booklets are free. We would be delighted to hear from you and discuss in more detail how we could support your outreach work. Please contact us at support@jesustheevidence.com if you would like to find out more.
